  The ferry ride is great, there are a lot of historical buildings and there are many small pathways between gardens and magnificent views!
  
  Pro tip: if you want a break from the lively Sydney city life... go to the middle of the "Dog-Leg-Tunnel" and enjoy the (if you're alone) complete silence and coolness.

  A real area of place with a full capture of the left overs ship history and buildings , including factory with the prison on the top of the island. In the coming recent years it has been transferred into a tourist area for renting sleep over barbecues and friends gathering places. Have a visit centre and two nice little cafe restaurants for you to take a break. It’s lovely view with the modern ships all together today has made it very useful and helpful for people to use this area with out damaging the old buildings for it has good safety protection for each of the section. I love this island , would definitely want to stay over for a night next time.

  Cockatoo island is a interesting historical place which use to be where we lock the worst convicts as well as the main ship building place.
  
  A lot of these historical precincts are really well maintained, so it is really fun to imagine what the life looks like on the island.
  
  There are also very good facility to camp overnight on the island, including BBQ, fridge, shower, toilet and bubblers for you to use.
  
  There is also a small shop to get some drink and food.
  
  The only catch is it is not well sheltered so it can be really hot, and the island is not super big, so it’s nice for an hour or two to tour around, but maybe not for a day trip.

  magical place, absolutely stunning. I injured my food and the island team drove me to my tent. they also offered a wheelchair. everything is accessible for wheelchairs,too. the history of this place, the nature. during our stay the seagulls were breeding ND therefore a bit aggressive, so not many cockatoos here. ferry leaves every 30-60 min to circular quay. nice BBQ area with grills and fridges with enough space. showers are clean. nights in tents can get cold here though. planes are flying right above it so it can get loud. they also have an island cinema uphill that plays movies at 6, 8 +10 pm. cafés on this island open at 9.

  Fantastic place. I went to the island via ferry from circular quay. The place is magical and the management did an excellent job preserving what is left of what once was a prison island.
  
  The place is rich in history and the audio guide gives us a glimpse of what life was in the island. Currently, they accept bookings and reservation for overnight accommodation and campings. Would love to go back and experience that!
